UDP/HNP induces IL-8 production through the 7-transmembrane, G-protein-coupled receptor P2Y6, whereas ATP-dependent IL-8 production is mediated by P2Y2 and P2Y4 and by P2X ligand-gated ion channel. Extracellularly released ATP is hydrolyzed to ADP, AMP, and nucleoside adenosine by cell-surface-associated ecto-nucleotidases. Adenosine also induces IL-8 production by A2b receptor.21
