Membrane Fas quantified using flow cytometry in freshly isolated mononuclear cells from ES-MDS (n = 17) and AS-MDS (n = 5) patients and healthy controls (n = 16) and expressed as mean RFI ± SEM was significantly higher in ES-MDS than in controls (P = .02) or AS-MDS (P = .005) but was not significantly different in AS-MDS and controls (P = .32). For the IPSS value, 0 indicates low, 0.5 is intermediate-1, and 1.5-2 is intermediate-2.
