The values in the first 3 columns are normalized signal-intensity values obtained by DNA filter array hybridization. AIDS indicates acquired immunodeficiency syndrome; and UI, uninfected.

Ratios of normalized signal intensities ≥ 2.0 and that are derived by values of which one is ≥ 0.20. The mean ± 2 SD of the negative control hybridization targets on these filters ranged from 0.13 to 0.19, and we used a normalized signal-intensity value of 0.2 as a highly conservative cutoff value for what was considered to be at or above the level of sensitivity of the assay.
