Parameters of small bowel histopathology 5 days after BMT scored from 0 to 4 depending on extent and severity of injury as described in Materials and Methods. KGF was given from either day −3 to 0 or day −3 to +5. Most parameters of injury are significantly worse in the allogeneic control and KGF (day −3 to 0) groups versus syngeneic control groups (*P < .01,
P < .05). KGF given from day −3 to +5 (but not from day −3 to 0) significantly reduced GVHD injury in allogeneic BMT recipients,
