Number of secondary colonies derived from BMLTC initiated with total BM exposed to HIV-1 and HIV-2. CFC are expressed as percentage of control cultures for each time point. All BMLTC were performed in duplicate and each culture was assessed in triplicate methylcellulose cultures to determine the number of CFC. The number of colonies in controls was 2,540 ± 220, 1,080 ± 90, 138 ± 16, 44 ± 6, and 30 ± 4 for 1 to 5 weeks per 3 × 106 cells, respectively. Percentage was calculated based on mean values, SD ≤ 12%. Mock virus stocks used were heat inactivated as described in Materials and Methods.
