Shown is an alignment of mature KIR2DL1 alleles that distinguishes the amino acid sequences of one allele from another. Allele frequency is estimated in this study by screening 17 healthy donors. Structural domains are indicated: Ig-like domains (D1 and D2), stem domain (ST), transmembrane domain (TM), and cytoplasmic domain (CYT). The 2 × 2 combinations of amino acids in the stem and transmembrane domains categorized various alleles into 4 distinct groups.
